Escondido Union School District Goes Green!

In the past, our schools sent home loads of flyers in students’ backpacks. As part of our efforts to be more environmentally friendly and to embrace innovative technology, we are moving from paper to a digital flyer delivery. Effective October 24, 2013, eflyers will be sent directly to parents’ email inboxes as well as posted on school websites for easy access. All flyers may be accessed by clicking on the  logo.

Every year, our schools will save tons of paper and reduce copy costs by thousands of dollars. In addition, paperless delivery of school flyers removes a significant administrative burden from teachers, office staff, and volunteers.

School-approved eflyers will keep you informed about upcoming school activities, programs, and events. And our children's backpacks will be a little bit lighter!

Hello and welcome to the Escondido Union School District. As I embark on this amazing journey as the Superintendent of the Escondido Union School District, I want to share my path and experiences that have led me to this amazing district.

I am the product of public education and I have personally seen and benefited from amazing teachers and mentors throughout my career. First and foremost, I am a teacher. I just happen to be working in the role of a superintendent. Teachers have the power to ignite a love of learning like no other profession.

Teaching was my calling and I enjoyed eight wonderful years as a classroom teacher. After my eighth year of teaching and working in various leadership roles as a teacher, I became a principal in the hopes of impacting many more students towards accomplishing their dreams. As a principal, I quickly learned that it was through the power of influence that leadership truly blossoms. After six years as a principal, I moved on to district level administration where I served as a director of human resources, associate superintendent of human resources, and lastly as an associate superintendent of business services. I knew that having a well-rounded experience in all areas of the organization would someday serve me well when I returned to my passion of teaching and learning. While I realize that I am not directly involved in the teaching process, as a superintendent, I can influence the transformation of ensuring that all students receive a quality instructional program. My personal leadership vision is to work collaboratively with the stakeholders within the educational community to “do what is right for all kids, because it is the right thing to do.”

As you see me in the community, in the schools, and walking into the classrooms, please come up and introduce yourself. I really do want to know your dreams and aspirations for this wonderful school district of ours! Together we can make a difference in the lives of our students. On behalf of the Board of Education and myself, welcome to what I know is going to be a wonderful 2014-15 School Year.

Sincerely,
Luis Ibarra, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

Greetings Community Members and Parents,
We welcome you to the Escondido Union School District’s website. Our 23 elementary and middle schools within Escondido proudly serve preschool through eighth-grade students.  This 2013-2014 school year promises a continued partnership with our children, our employees and you to ensure universal student achievement and excellence in our public schools.

In spring of 2013, the district adopted focus goals that define the school district’s priorities for the next two years.  Click here. This will be how we continue to define and achieve excellence in our public schools.

One example of our excellence is found in this video, depicting North Broadway School students and their science education program.  The video was part of the school’s successful spring campaign to win a $10,000 grant to forward their schoolwide science labs. Each of Escondido Union’s schools has strong educational programs which support students’ personalized learning levels and innovative learning. We encourage all community members to visit our schools. Tours can be arranged with our Escondido Education Foundation.  See you at our schools!

Thank you for your partnership,
Escondido Union School Board
Jennifer Walters, Ed.D., Superintendent
