Mission Sana Cruz is located overlooking the city of Santa Cruz, California. It was founded in 1791 by Father Lasuen, on a site that was considered perfect for the building of a mission, the land was fertile, the climate was mild, and the Indians amenable to conversion.

"I found the site to be the most excellent as had been reported to me. I found, besides a stream of water very near, copious and important. On August 28th, the day of St. Augustine, I said Mass and raised the cross on the spot where the mission is to be." Father Fermín Lasúen.
