Bibliography
Abbink, Emily. Missions of the Monterey Bay Area. (Santa Cruz, Carmel, and San Juan Bautista.) Lerner Publications, 1996. (The books in this series, each which covers 3-5 missions, are the best I've seen! Well-written in language fourth graders can understand, they contain color photos and many primary source documents/quotes. I've bolded all these books by Lerner Publications - and I swear I'm not in their marketing department! Start your research with one of them!! )
