Saratoga Elementary School - Class of 96/97

Fieldtrip to the Mission - Student's Comments

On December 19th, 1996, our class went to the Santa Cruz Mission. When you enter the main room, there is a little area under the floor where you can see the original foundation. It likes like a milk colored crystal. There are also some fossils of cows and such. It was very different from the foundations that we are now used to seeing, yet, it is somewhat the same.

When you enter the corridor to the main entrance and look up, you will see a combination of roof textures and materials. The materials consist of straw, tule, mud adobe, and other such assorted materials.

Well, I hope that I have helped you with your mission report. on Mission Santa Cruz. Good Luck and enjoy!

On the tour we saw how the native Californians made light. They had to dip wicks into hot wax all day. Another job was making bricks out of adobe. The natives would make tulle mats for canoes as well as mats to sleep on. They would also use tulle to wrap a fake duck to catch ducks. My favorite part of the mission was learning how the missions was saved and still remaining today.

On Thursday, December 19th, our class went to Mission San Cruz. We did a lot of fun stuff. I think my favorite things were looking at the wall that was made out of adobe bricks. I also like making tulle mats and making candles. I love making candles and tulle mats, but I now know how people had a hard time everyday. My favorite thing of all was looking at the last mission that remains. I learn a ton about these missions and I will love to learn more.

On Thursday, December 19th, my class and I went to Mission Santa Cruz. We made some candles and tulle mats. We also looked at some adobe bricks and the tools they used to make the curved roof. What was the most interesting, was the bones that sciencetist dug up in the ground.

On Thursday, December 19th, my class went to the Santa Cruz Mission. I was really excited. We made candles out of wax and tulemats, which are made out of tule. I thought it was really interesting that the building we saw was the only remaining original mission building at Mission Santa Cruz. It's the 12th mission out of 21 throughout the state of California. My favorite part was when we made candles. It was so interesting!

We had fun at mission Santa Cruz. It was the 12th of 21 mission. We made candles and tule mats. The native Californians slept on the same mats. The roofs were made of mud, logs, and tule. It was great!

On Thursday, December 19th, my class went to Santa Cruz Mission. Jessica was our tour guide and she took our class on a tour of the only remaining mission building. On the tour, my class got to make candles and tule mats and we also so adobe bricks. Jessica told us that Mission Santa Cruz is the 12th mission among the 21 missions on the trail. That's my experience of the Santa Cruz mission.

On December 19, 1997, I went to Mission Santa Cruz with my class. While we were there we learned about the mission. One thing we learned was how the Hispanics built Victorian house around the mission and that is why there is still part of the original building left.

On December 19th, our class went to Santa Cruz Mission. I though it was cool because we got to make tule mats by tying the tule together. We also made candles by dipping the wicks into the wax.

On Thursday, December 19th, my class went to Mission Santa Cruz. My favorite part of the tour was when we got to make candles out of wax. First we would take a string and put it on a stick. Then you would dip the string twice into the wax, after which you dip the string into the water. You continue to do this until you have a candle.

We also got to make tule mats. First we took a string and wrapped both sides of the tule and kept on doing this until it was a tule mat. We saw an old wagon outside the mission.
