The campanile or bell wall, built after the earthquakes of 1812 destroyed the original bell tower. Its massive strength is a characteristic of the effective enginering skills of early builders.

Outside church restoration. The church's thick walls were built to last, orginally built of stone, brick, and mortar measuring a thickness of approximately five feet. The church building is 150 feet long with walls of 30 feet in height.

Inside the Chapel of Mission San Gabriel Archangle. The altar displays six statues brought from Spain. The painting of Our Lady of Sorrows hangs to the left under the hanging lamp. Hanging along the walls are paintings also from Spain dating back over 300 years of the Apostles.

The Baptistry
The baptismal font is orginal, made of hand hammered copper and was the personal gift to the mission from King Carlos III of Spain. This baptismal shell used by the founding fathers is still being used by today's parishioners.

Campo Santa (Cemetery)
Within the beautiful mission gardens is the cemetery of Mission San Gabriel Archangle. Faithful followers of the mission were laid to rest during the years of 1778 to 1865, The mission archives records over 6,000 Indians interred here.

A large Crucifix memorial to the 6,000 Indians who were buried in the cemetery garden. Illness of cholera and the smallbox epidemic of 1825 was the main cause of death recorded.

Court of the Missions
Models of the 21 missions of the California chain are on display. The display was created for the 1922 opening of the Mission Playhouse.
