Mission San Luis Rey Asistencia
San Antonio de Pala Mission
Assistencias were small ranchos with large fields and herds. Small chapels
were built on them so religious services could be held. San Diego County
contains four asistencias (sub-missions). In 1810, Father Peyre started
San Antonio de Pala as a granary. He then added a chapel and houses for
the Indians. Pala is one of Mission San Luis Rey's asistencias and is almost
a mission by itself. Today mission is an active parish chuch, serving the
Pauma Indians much like it did when it was established in 1815 by Father
Peyri.

Pala Mission looks today much like it did when it was founded in 1815.
