Mission San Miguel Arcángel is located along the El Camino Real Trail (Highway 101), in the small town of San Miguel.. Its chapel measures 144 feet in length by 40 feet tall. The mission is the sixteenth Franciscan mision founded, named after San Miguel (St. Michael), the captain of the armies of God, who is regarded traditionally as the chief of the archangels.

Mission San Miguel 's outside is simple, inside the mission glows with bright colors applied by artist Estévan Munras and his assistant.

The fountain, located in the courtyard was forned of burned adobes salvaged from the grounds surrounding the mission.
