Acorn Basket

Pottery was an important for food storage, cooking, burial of cremation remains. Some of the local pottery dates back 500 years. The Kumeyaay constructed the coil variety, smoothed and shapped with a paddle. Noted for its quality and remarkable variety of form.


The Kumeyaay were also excellent basketmakers. Again, the coiling technique was the standard. The baskets were used for food storage, cradleboards, caps and trade items.
